Primark Spree

Striped skater dress £8  / Maxi skirt £10  / Floral pumps £4

I went into Primark on Thursday and came across the above things which i absolutely love (as you'll be able to see from my previous post, i've already worn the skater dress!). The maxi skirt, i just adore the pattern on, but still deciding what would go with it best on top.
Then i was in desperate need of some new comfortable shoes as my beloved River Island pixie boots ripped at the back the other day! Very frustrating that its miserable and cold here in England yet all the shops are full of summer essentials when i want to buy some new boots!
Rain is not flip flop weather! But in the meantime i have these lovely floral pumps!

What i Wore Today

I just got this dress yesterday and i absolutely LOVE it. Stripes are my favourite pattern ever, so whenever i find anything i like with stripes on, i just have to buy it!
Since it was a bit chilly, i teamed the skater dress with a plain black long sleeved top from New Look, black leggings, boots and then added my Primark aviator jacket (which i think has been my absolute best buy from there as it only cost me £10 reduced and i wear it most days!).
The ring i wore, is quite old now, but i discovered it when i was sorting out my jewellery stands the other day, i love big chunky rings like this!
Oh & scarf = vintage!

What I wore today

A rather nautical look today ! Dug out this navy cardigan which is adorned with white prints of ships wheels & anchors ( from River Island) & teamed it with a navy tied tee from Primark.
Along with black jeans.

Top Beauty Bargain Of The Week

Primark £1 for twin pack

These make up remover cleansing wipes are an absolute bargain from good old primark! I always stock up on these, and they also do eye make up remover pads too - they're always situated just by the till point so perfect last minute add on purchase as it saves you having to go to Boots or Superdrug!
Since my local town got a Primark i've just been using these wipes rather than the more expensive versions at Boots as they seem to do just as good a job!

I also find the 50p antibacterial handbag size hand wash that they sell perfect too , especially to put in the change bag for nappy changes when out & about!

Today

^ This is what i have been wearing today.

Top / jeans - New Look (from years ago..)
Denim shearling jacket / bag / feathered boots - Primark
Skull ring / snake earrings - Topshop

I LOVE this jacket, i've actually not worn it for ages, i think i temporarily forgot i owned it since i've mainly been in my leather aviator jacket & my parka over the past few months.
But it's perfect for those chilly spring days!
I also absolutely adore these boots! They were only £17 (as far as i can remember) and they're very comfortable, plus i think they look a bit more expensive than that. My mum told me i had "chicken feet" today though!

Jewellery wise... can't go wrong with a knuckle duster skull! The earrings i hadn't worn till today.. i discovered i had quite a few bits of jewellery from Topshop that i hadn't worn....

^ Yes clearly i had gone a tad mad in the Topshop sale at some point then forgotten all about this stash! So gonna have to start making my way through this little lot!
I know i've said this before but i am addicted to Topshop jewellery, just cannot resist their sales, especially when pieces go down to £1.50! Absolute bargains!

This week...

This week i have mostly been wearing...

1. This is what i wore today, what i like to consider fairly 'smart casual' attire.
Black jeans - New Look
Striped top - H&M maternity (i'm pretty sure it's still acceptable for me to get my moneys worth out of maternity wear by still wearing them!
Scorpion Necklace - Topshop in the sale for £1.50 BARGAIN!
Blazer - H&M
Bag - Primark (where else?!)

2. I've really been loving my H&M black blazer recently, i think mainly because the weathers been a bit warmer yet not enough to go coatless so a blazer is perfect for that kind of inbetween weather. I honestly believe every wardrobe should have at least one blazer - black obviously being the most versatile colour to get.
Scarf - Primark (How they don't get caught out for copyright infringement for these scarves is beyond me, but i am not complaining!!) - i LOVE the bright contrasting colours of this scarf, meaning its the perfect way to jazz up a plain jeans & tshirt combo, smartened up with my H&M blazer.
Sunglasses - can't remember where these are from, but probably Primark!

3. Dress - Primark (last summer £10). I do love a good Primark dress bargain like this one, it made perfect work attire since it was something i could just throw on & look vaguely put together! I also really like that it can be worn with black tights / leggings when its a bit colder & a top underneath like seen here. Also looks nice with pumps or boots which is always good! I always like to pick dresses that can be worn whatever the season.

4.  Can't really go wrong with a basic look like this, i got this scarf the other day for a bargain £2!! I LOVE it, it reminds me a bit of the Louis Vuitton stoles - although totally the wrong colours. Its perfect for dressing up a basic outfit like this. My only slight problem was that the scarf started to colour my white tee slightly pink...
Black Jeans & white tee - New Look
Scarf - Primark

5. This little coral coloured bag is from Primark, i actually bought it as i thought it would come in very handy for when i'm out & about with the pram, as at the moment i've been stuffing my handbag in the compartment underneath the pram but that means i have to keep bending down to get my purse out so i thought this would be much better. This bag also has 2 zipped compartments inside which is really handy to keep my bits & pieces seperate, it's a very good size too - well by that i mean i can fit my keys / phone / purse / sunglasses / lipgloss in it, which is all i really need when popping out.

6.  My lovely leopard print Primark bargain! My scarf collection is pretty hefty these days!

Primark Buys

I made the mistake of going in Primark for the second time in the matter of days, the first time i was very restrained & only left with the Skull watch that i blogged about the other day which actually ended up being faulty.. However my second trip i failed to be restrained & bought a few items....

(i know, i know, i did a whole blog post about how i agree with Vivienne Westwood about the streets being full of clones & that fast fashion is to blame.... but the fact that i only have very few pounds i think justifies me shopping in Primark & giving in to this so called fast fashion - especially since i can't afford any more of the real deal McQueen skull scarves....)

Firstly - Skull scarves are all over my local Primark, they must have them in about 10-20 different colours, silky & cotton type ones.
These two i LOVE :

Turqouise & coral skull print scarf - £3 Primark - BARGAIN... although i predict everyone will be sporting a sull scarf from Primark at these prices!
Beige & Pink skull print scarf £3 Primark.

^These are quite a decent size, probably exactly the same as the real deal McQueen versions & not as flimsy i might add as they're not 100% silk.
The 2 i bought above are cotton material ones as i didn't fancy any of the colours in the silky fabric. They really have got a really wide range of them in at the moment.
The black & white ones are especially 'classic' i think, but since i already own an original in that colour i thought i'd have some colourful ones!

Next purchase : a backpack! : (no don't worry, we've not time travelled back to the 1990s)

I can't even remember the last time i wore a backpack, it may have been during my school days which is quite some time ago now.. however now that i am a mother i feel i need to start thinking more practical, and this is clearly the solution. Well the solution of what bag to use when out with the pram at least.. as i have found that pushing the pram & trying to keep a shoulder strap bag on the shoulder proves quite difficult. So this should solve my problems. It's actually quite a substantial size too so i could always fit essential baby bits in as well as my purse / keys / phone instead of taking the changing bag.

Heart printed canvas backpack - £9 Primark

view of the back

Love the heart print

It has a lovely coral colour on the inside & a handy pocket to the front.

Oh & i couldn't resist this Tshirt, because lets face it - who doesn't want a shirt with French phrases on?! or is that just me.... :
(technically speaking i've just purchased a tshirt that says Hi! Hi! on it, but somehow with it being in French it makes it slightly cooler...)

£4 Primark

Now i am going to go hang my head in shame for giving in to Primark & it's lure's of FAST FASHION.....

Disposable Fashion = Nation Of Bad Dressers?

‘Everybody looks like clones and the only people you notice are my age.
'I don’t notice anybody unless they look great, and every now and again they do, and they are usually 70.
‘We are so conformist, nobody is thinking. We are all sucking up stuff, we have been trained to be consumers and we are all consuming far too much.
‘I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know? But I’m talking about all this disposable c***.’
‘In history people dressed much better than we do today. If you saw Queen Elizabeth it would be amazing, she came from another planet. She was so attractive in what she was wearing.
‘People have never looked so ugly as they do today regarding their dress.’

The above is what Dame Vivienne Westwood has been quoted as saying at the launch of her Red Label at London Fashion Week. I have to say, to some degree, i do agree with her.
Shops like Primark / H&M / New Look are creating clones. Now i say this as a Primark shopper myself, because i love nothing more than being able to buy multiple items for the fraction of the cost of other shops such as TopShop. But the downside to this 'affordable / fast fashion' is that on the highstreet (nearly) everyone looks the same.
As a nation we seem to have lost any individual style we had, and i do think it's down to this rise of 'disposable' fashion.  When a dress costs just £10 it's so easy to just wear it once & think nothing of it. This i think stems from the celebrity culture we have at the moment when it would be considered outrageous for a star to be seen in the same outfit more than once & this therefore has created a whole new breed of shopper.

Dame Vivienne suggests we should all be investing in 'key pieces' that will last throughout the years instead of giving in to 'fast fashion'. Now this is all well & good if you have a lot of ££ to spend on clothes & can afford to do so, but in this day & age the majority of young 20 somethings would rather have 10 dresses rather than just 1 - me included.

if however i were loaded with dosh then i of course would stock up on key pieces from her collections... along with some Louboutins & Louis Vuitton bags... but i'm not, so for now i shall stick to the highstreet.

BUT that doesn't mean that you have to be a clone. I don't think shopping in Primark has to mean you have bad fashion sense, or that you have to look like everyone else on the highstreet.
It simply means you have to be more CREATIVE. This is, what i think the British highstreet lacks - people wanting to be creative with their style.

Everyone these days just seems to want to copy the latest celeb styles & websites such as ASOS are buying into this need to dress like the rich & famous.
Instead of wanting to look like a z list celeb out of TOWIE, i wish more people would just experiment with fashion!

MIX IT UP. GO WILD.

I think a good thing to do is mixing & matching! Mix vintage in with highstreet buys.
My favourite thing to do is team vintage scarves with band tshirts - which actually always make for a good buy because your far less likely to see someone sporting the same 'gig' tshirt than the latest Primark look.
I used to go see bands quite a lot, and i always found the support acts tshirts were usually a lot 'cooler' & for half the price of the main acts! Also it is much better to buy tshirts at gigs than buy a Motorhead tshirt or whatever logo shirt from Topshop... JUST SAYIN' !

This makes for interesting reading : Daily Mail Vivienne Westwood article

Work wear.

This was my Tuesday work outfit..

Scarf - Moschino Cheap & Chic - actually purchased from TKmaxx! It's amazing what bargains you find in there when you rummage!

Blouse - Primark

Skirt - H&M

Footless tights - Primark.

I only own 2 Moschino items & they are both scarves with Olive Oil on. There's something very cute about them that i couldn't resist. I got them about a year or two ago, and actually had forgotten i'd got them until i dug them out this week! So thought i'd best get my wear out of them.

TKmaxx is actually quite good for finding little bargains as long you don't mind having a really good rummage. I've bought EMU boots (basically UGGs ) from there for about £20 when they retail in Russell & Bromley for £100+ . I know someone else who managed to get a Burberry jacket in there too!

I blinged my outfit up with some jewel encrusted Vivienne Westwood earrings.
I LOVE Vivienne Westwood jewellery, and for designer pieces it's actually quite reasonably priced for earrings. I just get a bit nervous wearing them incase i lose them, so don't tend to wear them all that often. I have quite a few pairs now, my favourites are the classic orb ones.
Dream pair of earrings though i have to say would be the Coco chanel ones! Bit out of my price range though.

Bit chilly so teamed with my Primark aviator leather look jacket - this i am DEFINITELY getting my money's worth out of (a whole £10 that was!). I practically wear it every day..

Bling ring! Topshop sale bargain.

Topshop is definitely the place to hit if you love jewellery when the sales seasons start as they have such brilliant bargains!
Also if you leave it till a week or two after it's started they usually have further reductions so you can pick up rings for £1.50!

The above are 2 wardrobe staples i could not be without!

A loose floaty blouse (Primark! but Topshop do similar for double the cost!) , i have a similar one in bright pink, but i think cream is the winner as it's very classic.
What i LOVE about this is that it can be dressed up - wear with skirt & heels for a night out or down with skinny jeans and a blazer...

Which leads me onto the second wardrobe staple.. a blazer! Think i've mentioned my love of the blazer before but seriously every wardrobe NEEDS one!

MUST HAVE

HAIR ACCESSORY -  this is my ultimate must have hair accessory...

The humble hair donut!

This wonderful little accessory can give you instant hair wonderfulness!
And to make it even better.. it's available from Primark for about £1.50 - if you have dark hair obviously get a dark coloured hair donut.. i made the mistake of getting a light one to begin with! DUH! Boots also sell them but for about £4 more!

So all you need to do is tie your hair into a ponytail... and then pull your hair through the middle of the donut so it goes to the roots of your hair, and then you just fan your hair round the donut and either pin it down or put a hair band round. ..

And then VOILA....

SIMPLES!
Stylish lovely hair in seconds! I personally prefer the messy style look to the perfectly polished donut bun.
I wish i had discovered this delightful item sooner!

Oh & i realised tonight you can also use it to create a big fringe quiff if you pin it in place or a big bouffant style back combed beehive if you pin it under the hair at the back of your head.

XOXO

Bargain Buy

So i've dug out a summer sale bargain that i bought the other month. It was from River Island for i think just £5 (£10 in the sale but i had a special wristband entitling me to 50%off sale purchases!)

It was raining so i teamed the blouse dress with a black aviator jacket - even though its summer i refuse to give up this wardrobe staple.. even if it's just a bit cloudy , i WILL wear it, just because you know.. it might suddenly rain..

Aviator jacket - £10 Primark (detachable shearling collar! )
Scarf - Vintage (of course!)
Ring - Topshop
Skull Pendant - Topshop (LOVE THIS) <3

I love the detailing on the dress. I think this will definitely work as a winter piece too, matched with either black knee high boots or ankle boots & a faux fur jacket .
