Vogue Italia

Vogue Italia seems to be causing quite the stir recently.

First up.... SLAVE EARRINGS. I mean really, how can anyone think it's acceptable to dub a pair of hooped earrings "Slave earrings" ? But clearly the writers of Vogue Italia think so.
The magazine also wrote this about the earrings -
"If the name brings to the mind the decorative traditions of the women of colour who were brought to the southern United States during the slave trade, the latest interpretation is pure freedom."
Is this really an appropriate reference to use when  describing earrings?

Vogue Italia Editor in chief Franca Sozzani posted this half attempt at an apology on the Vogue blog -
"We apologise for the inconvenience. It is a matter of really bad translation from Italian into English. The Italian word, which defines those kind of earrings, should instead be translated into "ethnical style earrings". Again, we are sorry about this mistake which we have just amended in the website".

Really bad translation.. umm really?! Nice try at trying to cover up a bad decision i guess.

Incase your wondering what so called slave earrings look like...

Next up.. Vogue Italia has a rather peculiar cover.

I had to take a second look before i noticed what was wrong with the above image.. I'll give you a clue... check out model Stella Tennant's waist.. That's right it's squeezed into a tiny corset.. i can only imagine that photoshop MUST have been used to exaggerate this.

Interesting..

XOXO
