Song Of The Day

Rita Ora - R.I.P ft. Tinie Tempah

I reckon this song is gonna be a big smash hit.. produced by Chase & Status, and i think penned by Drake.

Guess Who....

Let's play a little guessing game... who is this stunning brunette on the front cover of the new march edition of Interview magazine....

Did you have a guess?
Well it is none other than Miss Katy Perry! To me she looks almost totally unrecognisable!
Don't get me wrong, she looks stunning but it just does not look like her at all! Maybe as it's a far cry from her usual more 'quirky' image.

Sexy & He Knows It

I watched the latest episode of Glee last night & i was surprised to see Ricky Martin (of Livin La Vida Loca fame) making an appearance as a Spanish Teacher, and i couldn't resist posting the above video of him performing "Sexy And I Know It".
He is looking good these days! Shame he's gay.... *sigh*

Primark Buys

I made the mistake of going in Primark for the second time in the matter of days, the first time i was very restrained & only left with the Skull watch that i blogged about the other day which actually ended up being faulty.. However my second trip i failed to be restrained & bought a few items....

(i know, i know, i did a whole blog post about how i agree with Vivienne Westwood about the streets being full of clones & that fast fashion is to blame.... but the fact that i only have very few pounds i think justifies me shopping in Primark & giving in to this so called fast fashion - especially since i can't afford any more of the real deal McQueen skull scarves....)

Firstly - Skull scarves are all over my local Primark, they must have them in about 10-20 different colours, silky & cotton type ones.
These two i LOVE :

Turqouise & coral skull print scarf - £3 Primark - BARGAIN... although i predict everyone will be sporting a sull scarf from Primark at these prices!
Beige & Pink skull print scarf £3 Primark.

^These are quite a decent size, probably exactly the same as the real deal McQueen versions & not as flimsy i might add as they're not 100% silk.
The 2 i bought above are cotton material ones as i didn't fancy any of the colours in the silky fabric. They really have got a really wide range of them in at the moment.
The black & white ones are especially 'classic' i think, but since i already own an original in that colour i thought i'd have some colourful ones!

Next purchase : a backpack! : (no don't worry, we've not time travelled back to the 1990s)

I can't even remember the last time i wore a backpack, it may have been during my school days which is quite some time ago now.. however now that i am a mother i feel i need to start thinking more practical, and this is clearly the solution. Well the solution of what bag to use when out with the pram at least.. as i have found that pushing the pram & trying to keep a shoulder strap bag on the shoulder proves quite difficult. So this should solve my problems. It's actually quite a substantial size too so i could always fit essential baby bits in as well as my purse / keys / phone instead of taking the changing bag.

Heart printed canvas backpack - £9 Primark

view of the back

Love the heart print

It has a lovely coral colour on the inside & a handy pocket to the front.

Oh & i couldn't resist this Tshirt, because lets face it - who doesn't want a shirt with French phrases on?! or is that just me.... :
(technically speaking i've just purchased a tshirt that says Hi! Hi! on it, but somehow with it being in French it makes it slightly cooler...)

£4 Primark

Now i am going to go hang my head in shame for giving in to Primark & it's lure's of FAST FASHION.....

Song Of The Day

IM5 Mash up -
This song is definitely classed as a guilty pleasure kind of song, and possibly one that i shouldn't admit to liking. I just stumbled across it while looking on Perez Hilton's website. I don't really know who they are but one assumes they are America's answer to One Direction...... Enjoy!

This week..

I have mainly been wearing... (apologies for the poor quality bathroom mirror shots)

Rihanna LOUD! gig Tshirt

Rihanna Tee teamed with River Island polka dot leggings

River Island striped top, vintage scarf + Paperchase iphone cover

H&M Tshirt

H&m Tshirt + River Island tiger cardi

I'm still feeling extremely lazy when it comes to getting dressed.. but i do have a 3 week old baby so i guess i'm excused! I have mainly been living in leggings & tshirts, oh & my big Primark Parka!

This is a shot from me & Theo's first trip to town with the pram, he was wrapped up nice & toasty in a teddy bear pram suit from Matalan.

It's still chilly outside so i've been making the most out of my fur headband from Joy & my Primark aviator jacket.
Winter is actually my favourite season, much prefer winter coats / cardigans / jumpers to flip flops & shorts!

Oscars Fashion Smashion

Last night was the night the stars of Hollywood came out.... THE OSCARS.
The night seemed to be filled with white dresses & Angelina Jolies right leg became a trending topic on twitter after she spent all night posing with it sticking out of her velvet black dress.

Angelina s leg took centre stage last night.

My favourite look of the night was Katy Perry, who proved you can do demure with blue hair in a lovely silver number at Elton Johns Oscar bash.

Katy Perry looked stunning
Miley Cyrus was also amongst the best dressed in attendance at Elton Johns Oscar party in a beautiful Roberto Cavalli gown :

A grown up look for Miss Cyrus

The Beckhams were one of the best dressed couples at the Vanity Fair party

Kelly O in a shimmering black number

What Time Is It Mr Wolf..

Today i ventured into Primark & managed to have some self restraint... i purchased 1 item & that was it - this is a big step for me!
Anyways this item was a watch.. i saw it, fell in love & it had to be mine - mainly due to the fact that it has skulls on it..

£4 Primark

Tie fabric watch

I've never owned a watch like this & wonder if they will become a new fashion, as it doesn't have the conventional strap instead it has a fabric strap that you tie round your wrist as seen in the above picture.  It was only £4 so i couldn't resist, plus i appear to have lost my Fossil leather watch which is disappointing.
However the downside to this watch is that i have just discovered while taking pictures of it that it doesn't bloody well work... so straight back to the shop it shall go to be exchanged for hopefully an actual working watch. I should really have learnt my lesson by now that items from Primark should be fully checked over before purchasing so that mistakes like this don't happen.

Feeling Blue

This blue cropped hair cut Katy Perry has been sporting recently has really grown on me in recent weeks. The more i see pictures of her, the more i like it.
I like the fact that she seems fearless enough to carry off having blue hair in the music industry.

Gotta hand it to her, since she even managed to pull the blue hair off at the Grammy's  :

Not sure many people could pull off the blue hair though..

A Story To Warm The Heart

It's not very often that you come across a news article regarding a celebrity that makes you go "ahh isn't that lovely" BUT this truly does...

Taylor Swift asks cancer sufferer to be her date...

Country music star Taylor Swift was asked if she would be the date of a teenage cancer sufferer for his senior prom as part of a Facebook campaign however the songstress was unable to attend so instead kindly asked him if he would be her date for the American Country Music Awards.

Isn't that just so sweet of her? It's not often you hear of stars doing things like this. Taylor Swift (although i never had a strong opinion of her) has definitely gone up in my estimations from this.

xoxo

Buckle Up!

River Island have redeemed themselves this week with these lovely buckle bracelets:

Brown Leopard Print Wrap Buckle Bracelet £18

Cream Buckle Bracelet £25

Back view of black leather buckle bracelet £25
Front view of black buckle bracelet £25

I have to say i really love these, they're all real leather too so i guess that's why they are a bit on the pricey side. I think these appeal to my 'pirate' side!
Plus i'm not that into girly bracelets too much so these are more my kind of style - minus my charm bracelets (Pandora  / Links) which are the only kind of bracelets i tend to wear really.

Second Song Of The Day

Birdman - Y. U. MAD ft. Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne.

I know i have only just posted a 'Song Of The Day', but i couldn't resist posting this when i heard it. I have to say i LOVE this (as well as loving how ridiculous Lil Wayne looks in the red Russian hat towards the end). I must admit i'm a rap fan - Nelly / Nicki Minaj / Kanye etc so this is right up my street!

Song Of The Day

David Guetta - Turn Me On Ft. Nicki Minaj

This is bound to be a smash hit. David Guetta is a hit machine.
I'm not quite sure wtf is going on with the music video for this tune.. reminds me a bit of House Of Wax & i'm not sure thats a good thing. However this song is a right TUNE.

WTF Fashion

Would you pay £45 for this -

No? Don't blame you. Neither would i. But this is how much River Island would like you to pay.

HOT RIGHT NOW

Pink lips are HOT RIGHT NOW.

Have you noticed the influx of celebrities sporting hot pink lips at the moment ? That's because it is the latest lip craze!

FORGET red hot lips, because fashions hottest hue right now is bright pink -  or a more opaque look if your not as daring.
I have to say, i embrace this, it's a good colour - although i don't think everyone could pull it off.

Here are some celebrities who have been embracing the lip trend :

Katy Perry rocking the pink lips at the Grammys

Kelly O sporting a more opaque hue

Blake Lively - this gossip girls always on trend!

If i'm feeling daring i may give this lip trend a go myself , if i can dig out a pink lipstick amongst my make up collection!

Rimmel have a new lipstick collection out called Colour Show Off which seems to have a good range of pink colours - for around £6 & currently on 3 for 2 with all Rimmel products in Boots stores.

Disposable Fashion = Nation Of Bad Dressers?

‘Everybody looks like clones and the only people you notice are my age.
'I don’t notice anybody unless they look great, and every now and again they do, and they are usually 70.
‘We are so conformist, nobody is thinking. We are all sucking up stuff, we have been trained to be consumers and we are all consuming far too much.
‘I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know? But I’m talking about all this disposable c***.’
‘In history people dressed much better than we do today. If you saw Queen Elizabeth it would be amazing, she came from another planet. She was so attractive in what she was wearing.
‘People have never looked so ugly as they do today regarding their dress.’

The above is what Dame Vivienne Westwood has been quoted as saying at the launch of her Red Label at London Fashion Week. I have to say, to some degree, i do agree with her.
Shops like Primark / H&M / New Look are creating clones. Now i say this as a Primark shopper myself, because i love nothing more than being able to buy multiple items for the fraction of the cost of other shops such as TopShop. But the downside to this 'affordable / fast fashion' is that on the highstreet (nearly) everyone looks the same.
As a nation we seem to have lost any individual style we had, and i do think it's down to this rise of 'disposable' fashion.  When a dress costs just £10 it's so easy to just wear it once & think nothing of it. This i think stems from the celebrity culture we have at the moment when it would be considered outrageous for a star to be seen in the same outfit more than once & this therefore has created a whole new breed of shopper.

Dame Vivienne suggests we should all be investing in 'key pieces' that will last throughout the years instead of giving in to 'fast fashion'. Now this is all well & good if you have a lot of ££ to spend on clothes & can afford to do so, but in this day & age the majority of young 20 somethings would rather have 10 dresses rather than just 1 - me included.

if however i were loaded with dosh then i of course would stock up on key pieces from her collections... along with some Louboutins & Louis Vuitton bags... but i'm not, so for now i shall stick to the highstreet.

BUT that doesn't mean that you have to be a clone. I don't think shopping in Primark has to mean you have bad fashion sense, or that you have to look like everyone else on the highstreet.
It simply means you have to be more CREATIVE. This is, what i think the British highstreet lacks - people wanting to be creative with their style.

Everyone these days just seems to want to copy the latest celeb styles & websites such as ASOS are buying into this need to dress like the rich & famous.
Instead of wanting to look like a z list celeb out of TOWIE, i wish more people would just experiment with fashion!

MIX IT UP. GO WILD.

I think a good thing to do is mixing & matching! Mix vintage in with highstreet buys.
My favourite thing to do is team vintage scarves with band tshirts - which actually always make for a good buy because your far less likely to see someone sporting the same 'gig' tshirt than the latest Primark look.
I used to go see bands quite a lot, and i always found the support acts tshirts were usually a lot 'cooler' & for half the price of the main acts! Also it is much better to buy tshirts at gigs than buy a Motorhead tshirt or whatever logo shirt from Topshop... JUST SAYIN' !

This makes for interesting reading : Daily Mail Vivienne Westwood article

Ooh Controversial!

Last night saw one of the biggest nights in the British music industry - the 2012 Brit Awards.
It was disappointing to say the least. Gone are the days of drunken behaviour from rowdy bands.

HOWEVER. There was some controversy as this years host James Corden was given the instructions to cut Adele's acceptance speech when she won THE award of the evening Best Album Of The Year. Just as she was saying how grateful she was to have been flying the flag for Britain in the US at the Grammys where she won 6 awards.
She then proceeded to stick her middle finger up to "the suits of the Brits" (as she explained in an interview after). And i have to say i don't blame her!!
I find it somewhat hilarious that she wins 6 Grammys in the US yet here in the UK she wins 2 Brit awards and she's not even allowed to finish her speech!

Would it really have been THAT much of a big deal to let the show over run by 5-10 minutes?!

I blame Blur, who won the Outstanding Contribution award - Damon Albarn proceeded to whip out a piece of paper to read out a long list of thankyou's earlier in the evening - Why did no-one cut him off? Because lets face it, he was RAMBLING & it's not Blur are really even relevant anymore. Where as Adele is one of the biggest singers in the world right now!
Anyways enough of Adele.. although i will just say, she looked STUNNING & her performance was of course brilliant, but who would expect any less from the songstress?

I was disappointed that Jessie J left empty handed despite being nominated for 3 awards.
Also thought Example should have been nominated for Best Male Solo Artist - after all, i'm sure he has sold more records than James Blake.. (although he was nominated for British Single)

On that note I'm not quite sure what was going on with some of the nominee's - for example - KATE BUSH was nominated for British Female Solo Artist. It's not the 80's!!
Also BJORK was nominated for Best International Female Solo Artist... Why on earth was Katy Perry not nominated?!

I was however happy to see that Lady Antebellum were nominated in the International Group category - of course they didn't win, but nice to see they were at least nominated.

The best dressed of the night in my opinion was JESSIE J who stepped away from her usual catsuits for one evening :

Tuesday 21 February 2012

They've only gone & done it...

It was only the other day i posted my disgust at the supposed rumours of Rihanna & Chris Brown collaborating in the studio again together.. but then that's all it was, rumours.
But now it's become a reality..

Rihanna who turned 24 yesterday has released an x rated remix of her latest single Birthday Cake, which features a cameo from - you've guessed it - Chris Brown. In which he raps
"'Girl I wanna f*** you right now. Been a long time, I've been missing your body.Let me turn the lights down, when I go down it's a private party, ooh, it's not even her birthday but I wanna lick the icing off. 'Give it to her in the worst way. Can't wait to blow her candles out.'
^ This in my opinion is disgusting that any record label would allow him to release a collaboration with Rihanna as lewd as this considering their past. It is as if it is now considered acceptable to forgive & forget such awful abuse!

Oh and Rihanna also sings :
'Remember how you did it? If you still wanna kiss it, then come and get it.'
She SHOULD be acting as a role model to young girls, & this is not the way to go about it.

Not only that, but he has also released a remix of his latest release Turn It Up featuring none other than Rihanna..

Seriously?!   Who thought this was a good idea?
I reckon the backlash to this will be pretty big, fan's of Rihanna's have already taken to twitter to voice their dismay at the singers latest stunt.

I'd like to say though - IF she wishes to forgive & forget (not that i think that is right) then it is down to her, BUT to publicly do so by releasing a song is just sending out completely the wrong message. She should be acting as a role model & i think her management should be doing more about it! In fact i just think the whole situation is just so DISGUSTING.
Just the fact that Rihanna is making money out of publicly forgiving this man who beat her to a pulp, especially doing so by released a rude song with him! The content of it is hardly appropriate in my opinion, considering their past.

But more fool the people who buy these singles! I would actually think it would be quite fitting if radio stations had a blackout of these songs!

I say all of this as a Rihanna fan - well i say fan, thats possibly more past tense now. I would think twice about buying another ticket to her next tour..

I do also think she is playing a risky game by doing this as i reckon IF he were to beat her again & pictures released i would think the general public would find it harder to feel sorry for her after this little publicity stunt.

Does make me wonder... what kind of PR team does she have that thought this was a good idea?!

The backlash i think is going to be HUGE & too right!

Anyway in other Rihanna news that paints her in a bit more of a good light...
She ditched a private car to ride on the London underground to attend The Brits rehearsals earlier -

Rude Hearts

Question - Would you honestly let your 11 year old daughter leave the house in this dress? (let alone buy it in the first place).

Ok, so the pictures make it look quite sweet & innocent.. HOWEVER if you were close enough to read the Love Hearts you would find such phrases as "drop dead", "blow me", "choke",  "please drown" & "eat shit" !! Hardly appropriate for an 11 year old girl to be sporting.
But this is what Sadie Frost's 11 year old girl Iris was seen wearing at London Fashion week.

I find it hard to believe that someone has designed a dress with such phrases on aimed at young girls at that age. Who in their right mind would think this is OK?

And it seems that after it was picked up by the press that Sadie Frost has now apologised, as it was a 'geniune mistake' as she didn't notice was the Love hearts said... If you say so Miss Frost..

Sadie Frost Apologises

Let this be a lesson to you.. always look at phrases on dresses before you buy them!

Whose That Girl?

Emily's TV show recommendation: NEW GIRL!

Okay, let me start of by saying this is NOT the new Friends. But there never will be a new Friends, nothing will ever compare. I've never really understood this whole assumption that if there is a new US sitcom then it must be trying to be the new Friends.
In my opinion, it is, i guess in a way an 'iconic' tv show. It was THE television show of my generation growing up as a teenager. And there never will be another romance like Ross & Rachel!

However despite all of the above the new US comedy New Girl is delightful. It centers around a quirky girl named Jess with a penchant for singing (Zooey Deschanel aka face of Rimmel) who finds her boyfriend has been cheating on her therefore she has to strike out on her own & finds herself moving in with 3 guys...

Now while its not particularly laugh out loud hilarious all the time, it is certainly sweet & something different. And with cameo's so far from Justin Long & Ryan Kwanten what is not to like!?
Plus Zooey Deschanel plays the role perfectly, she is just ADORABLE.

I think a lot of the storylines are things that you can relate to  yourself aswell which helps.
My only slight niggle with this show is that i find myself, on a daily basis singing the theme tune in my head. I just can't get rid of it!

Check it out!

xoxo

Song Of The Day

Thought i might aswell try make this Song Of The day thing a regular feature & share some good music! (well good is subjective!)

This is Katy Perry's latest tune & i predict it is going to be a sure fire hit. Very catchy. Albeit not very original, but i like it!

Good Girl, Gone Bad

Reports are emerging that Rihanna will reunite with her ex lover / attacker Chris Brown in the recording studio and it's got me wondering just what kind of example is she setting?

This is at the same time that the full police reports from that incident have been leaked to the press, which just show how truly horrendous that attack was back in 2009 -
  Disturbing police reports

In August that year Chris Brown was sentenced to 5 years probation, 1 year of domestic abuse counselling (erm, what the?!), 6 months community service & a 5 year restraining order (which has now been lifted)- all of this in my opinion is no where near enough for the damage he caused in the attack.

This image was all over the news & it was shocking to see such a huge celebrity looking in this state, especially more so i think as we all found out it was at the hands of another singer in the limelight.
He reportedly punched Rihanna multiple times to the face & body, bit her & tried to choke her in a headlock claiming he was going to kill her before neighbours heard her cries & alerted the authorities.

Along with reports about them hooking up to record vocals together, it has also emerged that the two were together at her birthday party. Seems like the "Only Girl In The world" singer has forgiven Brown for all of the above...
Now what kind of example is she setting to the world? That it is seemingly okay to forgive a man for domestic abuse. She should be showcasing that you can move past these kind of tragic events, not getting back with the man who caused them!

BUT i also have to question what kind of example is the media setting for seeming to forgive Chris Brown for all of this too. As he is still performing at ceremonies such as the Grammys & receiving awards.. even after what we all know the crime he committed & he doesn't even seem to show any remorse for whatsoever.

I find it sad that he has fans tweeting him messages saying things such as "you can beat me up anyday" - what kind of society do we live in when young girls are still fawning over a man who has publicly been caught out for domestic abuse against one of the biggest singers in the world right now?

I wish the media would have a Chris Brown blackout & stop giving him the publicity, radio stations should stop playing his music etc. He (in my opinion) should not have been given the priviledge to perform at this years Grammy's ceremony.
Actually this reminds me, at the time when this all came to light back in 2009 Chris Moyles actually brought this point up on his breakfast show, he didn't agree that they should be playing his music so in a stand against this he talked all through Browns latest release to ruin it. And i say good on him! More people should have done this.
But instead it's almost as if Brown has become some kind of victim / underdog.

I certainly won't be buying any of his singles or seeing him on tour.

Anyways back to Rihanna...

Along with all of the above, i am actually starting to wish her record label or management would put a stop to some of her tweets, as they are not exactly appropriate for young fans...
For exmaple talking about smoking drugs , using the N word. It's not exactly what i would call being a good role model for this generation.
Don't even get me started on her turning up an hour late to her concerts & not even so much as apologising. Fans are the reason you are where you are, don't let them down when they pay good £££ to come see you!

I actually predict that Rihanna may suffer a Britneyesque breakdown in the next year the way she is heading.. (i hope i'm wrong of course but it does seem that way)
I think this is one of the problems of becoming world famous / millionaire at such a young age.

From this fresh faced talent -

To this -

Do you think the media should shun Chris Brown?

Lady Gaga has created MONSTERS!

I am utterly disappointed to read the news that "Little Monsters" (aka Lady Gaga fans) have been sending vile tweets to Kelly Osbourne regarding her comments on E!'s Grammy Fashion Police.
Osbourne stated that Gaga was 'disrespectful' for snubbing the red carpet.
Her comments were as follows :

"Being part of the music industry is walking the red carpet. You say hello to your fans and you give back to those reporters and those people who supported you. And when you go to an awards show and you don’t walk the red carpet, I find that disrespectful."
Now, i have two thoughts on the matter. Firstly the above could be true, Gaga could just be simply shunning the red carpet & generally just not giving a **** about it all.
But my second opinion is that perhaps Gaga did have grand entrance plans (take the egg hatching last year for example) but the death of Whitney Houston made her rethink her plans as to not "steal the headlines" as it were. Since that's what everyone was talking about. I do think had she made some ludicrous entrance like last year she would have been blamed for trying to steal the limelight. Mind, it would seem she can't win either way as some are saying she was trying to steal the spotlight for the evening by shunning the red carpet.

Either way i don't think Kelly's comments were in anyway out of order. They weren't spiteful or hateful in any way at all. Yet Lady Gaga's fans have heard them & decided to send completely vile messages to Kelly O via Twitter. Which is completely uncalled for.

Gaga is all about the LOVE not HATE! Yet for some reason her 'Little Monsters' feel it appropriate to send messages calling Kelly O fat / ugly, wishing her dead & hoping that she gets raped! Absolutely DISGRACEFUL.
Part of me is hoping that Lady Gaga aka Mother Monster will speak up about all of this & tell her so called fans that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable.

It's kind of ironic that these people are trying to speak out against Kelly Osbourne for 'bullying' Gaga yet they are retaliating in the worst possible way - death threats!!

Gaga speaks out against bullying, this is not what she would want!

Oh, and while i'm on the subject of Little Monsters, they're attempt at trying to spread the twitter rumour that Madonna had died was just PATHETIC. Making "R.I.P Madonna" a trending topic, as if this would somehow make her the next victim after Whitney Houston..

I say all of this as a Lady Gaga fan by the way. I LOVE her & her music, but there is no way i would take to tweeting hate!!
