Vogue Italia

Vogue Italia seems to be causing quite the stir recently.

First up.... SLAVE EARRINGS. I mean really, how can anyone think it's acceptable to dub a pair of hooped earrings "Slave earrings" ? But clearly the writers of Vogue Italia think so.
The magazine also wrote this about the earrings -
"If the name brings to the mind the decorative traditions of the women of colour who were brought to the southern United States during the slave trade, the latest interpretation is pure freedom."
Is this really an appropriate reference to use when  describing earrings?

Vogue Italia Editor in chief Franca Sozzani posted this half attempt at an apology on the Vogue blog -
"We apologise for the inconvenience. It is a matter of really bad translation from Italian into English. The Italian word, which defines those kind of earrings, should instead be translated into "ethnical style earrings". Again, we are sorry about this mistake which we have just amended in the website".

Really bad translation.. umm really?! Nice try at trying to cover up a bad decision i guess.

Incase your wondering what so called slave earrings look like...

Next up.. Vogue Italia has a rather peculiar cover.

I had to take a second look before i noticed what was wrong with the above image.. I'll give you a clue... check out model Stella Tennant's waist.. That's right it's squeezed into a tiny corset.. i can only imagine that photoshop MUST have been used to exaggerate this.

Interesting..

Handbag of the week

RIVER ISLAND POLKA DOT BAG.

Okay yes i will admit this bag has seen much much better days, HOWEVER it is probably about 2-3 years old now. I still love it, i've just dug it out to use this week as my handbag.
I like to rotate my bags rather than just stick with ones for months on end, especially since i have quite a few of them..
I do love this bag, it's very cute in my opinion, plus it has leopard print lining! I love little touches like that. They actually brought this out in red polka dots too but i personally think this is more a classic look.
Bags like this are PERFECT size for the amount of junk i stick in my handbags.

Hmm... i do wonder if i could wash it!?

Coral Romance

RIMMEL LYCRA PRO NAIL VARNISH IN CORAL ROMANCE 317.

LOVE my nails this week (yes i gave up on my shattered effect nails as they became very chipped). So i have opted for this colour popping number.  I painted a base coat of white nail varnish on to begin with to give the colour an extra pop!!

The lycra pro nail varnishes by Rimmel are definitely  something i would recommend. They come with a maxi mistake free brush (supposedly although i'm a tad cack-handed when it comes to painting nails!). Quite long lasting too which is always a bonus.

Rimmel nail varnish is my top brand to go for as i find them to be very well priced & good quality. I never see the point in paying £7+ for nail varnish!!

TOP TIP - If you get any excess nail varnish around your nails simply dab a cotton bud into some nail varnish remover and remove using this!  precision!

XOXO

Parka LOVE.

Today i treat myself to a new winter coat (It's my birthday this week therefore it's allowed!). I love coats. Mainly ones that contain shearling or fur.. have you noticed?! (Faux obviously).
I bought this little beauty from Primark for a steal at £26!

I love the humble Parka. It's comfy, versatile & never really seems to go out of fashion, therefore it is pretty much a must have purchase, and maybe even a winter wardrobe staple!
Also who doesn't NEED a coat with lots of pockets?!
I love the sheepskin feel lining & the fur trum on the hood - which FYI is removable (just the fur not the hood).
By the way i must add this parka is a darker green , just my camera flash makes it look a tad washed out.

For £26 this was a complete bargain compared to these extremely similar ones...

This Parka is from Topshop for a WHOPPING £95!!

ASOS Parka £80.

There we have it.. it certainly pays to shop around & try find a lookalike version if you don't have the pennies to fork out! I have a feeling these parka's (also available in black) will sell out pretty quickly.

I just love the fur round the hood... Plus it is actually a rather warm coat... don't think i can get away with wearing it just yet, i'll have to wait until the temperature drops a bit more.

Today

TODAY this was my ensemble.. kind of feel a bit of lumberjack chic going on - is that even a style?!

Denim Aviator - my new LOVE - Primark ( about £18, still in stock!)
Checked shirt - New look
T-shirt - Jack Wills ( check me out with my posh t-shirt.. haha !)
Black Jeans - Mothercare Maternity range £20

Boots - Last autumn stock Primark. Totally wish i'd bought two pairs of these, they are so comfortable & i love the shearling lining.

VMA fashion smashion.

So one of the biggest nights in the music industry was a bit of a SNOOZE FEST this year.
Highlight was of course Lady Gaga's opening rendition of You & I which featured Brian May (you know the guitarist from Queen.) doing an amazing guitar solo.
Queen Gaga well she wasn't a she for the evening.. instead she chose to come to the ceremony as her male alter ego - JO CALDERONE. Not entirely sure how i feel about this.. i kind of miss the meat dress crazyness of last VMA's & all the outfit changes. This year.. just white tshirt & trousers for Gaga.

So that means the  title of style queen of the evening goes to... KATY PERRY.  She wore a total of 5 outfits throughout the evening!

Rusell Brands Mrs started the evening in a Japanese ensemble, which went very well with her new cute lavender hair do.
Atelier Versace dress with Jimmy Choo heels.
The only thing that bugs me about this outfit is the fact that her & Russell don't match! Compared to the outfits they wore to the Grammys which complimented each other beautifully.

Collecting her moon man award she wore a  Christian Dior Haute Couture outfit with a rather unusual Philip Treacy creation perched on top of her head.
I'm just not loving this outfit as much as her other looks for the evening. Nice try though.

Now this one i  LOVE. It's a typical katy Perry style dress in my opinion, cute & fun. A custom Johnny Wujek for Furne One breaking records dress and hat.

As a side note, if you ever get chance to see this lady live, do so! It is truly a fun & enjoyable evening. She's a true entertainer.. plus on her Californian Dreams tour the venues were pumped with candyfloss smelling sweet stuff! Plus her stage outfits are just truly wonderful.

This look is stunning.
To introduce Adele onto the stage she wore this gorgeous lacy purple Tom Ford floorlength gown.  BEAUTIFUL.
Plus this colour really compliments her hair.

...And the last look of the evening.
An Elie Saab blouse with pencil skirt. Hmm not really feeling the love of this outfit. Doesn't really scream " after party outfit ".
But nevertheless Katy definitely stole the fashion limelight this year.

Of course i couldn't do a VMA fashion post without mentioning some of the other outfits that evening...

Britney was looking the best i think in years (at a public event.. not including airbrushed ad's / music videos).
She truly seems to be back on the right track! Lets hope it stays this way!

Nicki Minaj..... THERE ARE NO WORDS......

Beyonce looked BLOOMING marvellous while showing off her baby bump for the first time in public.
I've never been a huge fan of her music, but i'm really loving her right now, i think it was THAT Glastonbury performance that did it.

Overall though the VMA's didn't really provide much gossip or shocks this year.. minus Beyonce's little announcement of course..

XOXO

Look Good In All You Do

So while browsing the internet. I came across an article about a rather shocking advert for a Canadian hair salon.. with the tagline " Look Good in All You Do".
This is the advert..

I can't even begin to understand what was going through the peoples minds who thought this would be a great way to promote their salon?! SERIOUSLY!? WTF!
Personally.. (and i think this would go for a lot of people) i would not see this advert and think " wow how edgy, i really should go get my hair cut there". I mean yes it's getting attention & will stick in your mind, but for ALL the wrong reasons.
Fluid Hair salon in Edmonton Canada, i am in awe of your stupidity.

Domestic abuse is not something which should be used to advertise hair salons!

Wow whole new levels of SERIOUSLY WTF...  On the hair salons Facebook page.. this picture was posted by i presume one of the members of the salon team with the caption " hottest battered women i've ever laid my eyes upon" WOW. Words cannot begin to express how utterly wrong all of this is.

Big well done on your EDGY ad.... NOT.

There are no more words. This is just unacceptable on so many levels.

Opinions?!

Gaga Retrospective

Tonight is one of the biggest events in the music industry's calendar, that's right tonight is the night for MTV's Video Music Awards.
This time last year the world was shocked to see Lady Gaga appearing on stage wearing none other than a dress made out of meat & the same night that Kanye West showed himself up stealing the mic from the young Taylor Swift.

This year will see Lady Gaga opening the event, as well as partaking in a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse alongside Brit sensation Adele & crooner Tony Bennett.
Oh & not to mention a tribute to Britney Spears which will feature Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato, Janet Jackson & Lady Gaga  -  while i'm not entirely sure why Britney requires a tribute, i am in no doubt whatsoever that this will be nothing short of EPIC. Especially since Brit herself is due to perform aswell.. On a side note i am utterly gutted that i won't be seeing her Femme Fatale tour this year, i really regret not getting tickets as it seems she is really back on form, albeit not quite back to the same form she was on during her peak.

So the question on everybodies lips is how on earth will Gaga top her meat dress in the stakes of outrageous-ness  this evening?!
At her first VMA's back in 2009 she donned not one but 9 different outfits for the occassion...

1. Gaga arrived on the red carpet in a black lacy  Gaultier floor length gown, feathered neckbrace by Keko Hainswheeler and a House Of Blue Eyes mask.  I actually really like this look. It's a little bit whacky but not completely overboard & it has a Victorian edge to it i feel.

2. Wearing a lace outfit by Haus Of Gaga she performed Paparazzi where she proceeded to dangle above the stage on a rope & bleed through the outfit. It was an extremely powerful performance & truly one of her more memorable.

3. For her acceptance speak the singer wore a red lace dress which was from the 1998 Alexander McQueen archives along with a crown from the Haus Of Gaga. I love it.

4. Another Gaultier creation, a very futuristic padded corset.

5. THIS is fricking amazing. No-one but Gaga could wear something like this. A sequined Gaultier skirt with a Philip Treacy "creation" around her face.

6. Her final look for the evening was yet another Gaultier designed dress, with the headwear created by brit Alex Noble.

The 2010 VMA outfits were halved down to 3, but they were exceptional..

Her red carpet ensemble was McQueen in tribute to the late British Fashion designer who passed away earlier in the year. Very regal. I absolutely LOVE this look, it's very glamourous. The dress is stunning, i also like the blue in her hair.
Next up head to toe Georgio Armani..
And finally THE MEAT DRESS which is now infamous. God only knows how she can top that this year.

I am beyond excited to find out what her outfits will be at tonights event. It's all been kept very top secret but from Lady Gaga i expect nothing short of SPECTACULAR.

Oh and you know i'll also be interested to see what everyone else like Katy Perry etc.. turn up in. But of course all eyes will be on the new Queen of pop. - has she earned this title yet? i think so.

Glee's Fashion Night Out

GOES GLEE!!

(for those not in the know.. Fashions Night Out is a night for SHOPPING. It started in NYC but there is now events being held worldwide. Basically there are events happening all around the big apple on September 8th for all those fashion lovers out there! It was started 3 years ago to help boost the economy & bring the fun back into shopping.. if only i lived in NYC)

This year the cast of Glee have been advertising the event. And they've gone HIGH FASHION! From Balmain to Marc Jacobs. They look FAB.

xoxo

Ps. Yes i am a self confessed GLEEK. and WHAT?!

This week..

I have mostly been wearing...

Shearling lined denim jacket - £20 Primark.
Red patterned top - £7 Primark. (can you tell how much i love Primark?!).

Leaf ring - Topshop (in the sale..obviously, i never, well EXTREMELY rarely pay full price for jewellery in there.). I find the quality a bit hit & miss, some ring's i've had from there have turned my fingers green, or they've turned a rusty colour. Though i've heard to stop this you can coat the ring with clear nail varnish, i've never got round to trying this out yet, i really should!

I went out for drinks in town at the weekend so decided to wear this ASOS black dress. Even though i LOVE browsing ASOS, this is actually the only thing i think i have purchased from there & it was in the sale for under £10. It does have cut out bits at the side, but when i've worn this before i've actually worn a bright pink top underneath to give it a bit of a contrast.
ASOS sales are definitely worth browsing!

Jersey striped summer dress - New Look. Nice & simple to throw on for summery days. Plus i like the lace detailing at the neckline.

Lady Gaga TShirt - i bought this from her concert last year that i went to. Gig t-shirts are a must have for my wardrobe, i have quite a few now but this is definitely my favourite. Always check out the merch stands at concerts.  I always think it's a good thing to buy them as you won't see many other people on the streets wearing them! Also definitely try to buy them from the official stands as the T-shirts being flogged outside are likely to be of UTTER shoddy quality!

Maxi Skirt - New Look sale £5.

XOXO

Today i heart stripes

Today i decided to wear my BRAND NEW Mothercare maternity jeans! I finally have a little bit of a bump making an appearance so decided it best to invest in some black maternity jeans that i can wear for work. Luckily they currently have an offer on for 3 for 2 maternity wear and i got £5 for joining their Mother & baby club (which is just a free club where they send you vouchers etc). So for £35 i managed to get 2 pairs of black jeans & a pair of leggings, which i didn't think was too bad really considering in River Island etc a pair of jeans can set you back £50+.

I opted for the ones with the elasticated waist rather than the ones with the band that goes over the bump, thought this option might be the more comfortable but will have to wait and see as i grow!

Striped Top - River Island ( another bargain i got in the summer sale, i swear i only tend to shop there when there are massive red sale signs!)

Scarf - vintage, this is my very favourite scarf, it's actually my Nana's that i borrowed and seem to have kept!

Denim Shirt - New Look from last year.

I know it's all about the SPOTS & STARS right now but stripes will never really go out of fashion. Breton striped tops will never go out of fashion in my opinion so another wardrobe staple piece!

XOXO

Work wear.

This was my Tuesday work outfit..

Scarf - Moschino Cheap & Chic - actually purchased from TKmaxx! It's amazing what bargains you find in there when you rummage!

Blouse - Primark

Skirt - H&M

Footless tights - Primark.

I only own 2 Moschino items & they are both scarves with Olive Oil on. There's something very cute about them that i couldn't resist. I got them about a year or two ago, and actually had forgotten i'd got them until i dug them out this week! So thought i'd best get my wear out of them.

TKmaxx is actually quite good for finding little bargains as long you don't mind having a really good rummage. I've bought EMU boots (basically UGGs ) from there for about £20 when they retail in Russell & Bromley for £100+ . I know someone else who managed to get a Burberry jacket in there too!

I blinged my outfit up with some jewel encrusted Vivienne Westwood earrings.
I LOVE Vivienne Westwood jewellery, and for designer pieces it's actually quite reasonably priced for earrings. I just get a bit nervous wearing them incase i lose them, so don't tend to wear them all that often. I have quite a few pairs now, my favourites are the classic orb ones.
Dream pair of earrings though i have to say would be the Coco chanel ones! Bit out of my price range though.

Bit chilly so teamed with my Primark aviator leather look jacket - this i am DEFINITELY getting my money's worth out of (a whole £10 that was!). I practically wear it every day..

Bling ring! Topshop sale bargain.

Topshop is definitely the place to hit if you love jewellery when the sales seasons start as they have such brilliant bargains!
Also if you leave it till a week or two after it's started they usually have further reductions so you can pick up rings for £1.50!

The above are 2 wardrobe staples i could not be without!

A loose floaty blouse (Primark! but Topshop do similar for double the cost!) , i have a similar one in bright pink, but i think cream is the winner as it's very classic.
What i LOVE about this is that it can be dressed up - wear with skirt & heels for a night out or down with skinny jeans and a blazer...

Which leads me onto the second wardrobe staple.. a blazer! Think i've mentioned my love of the blazer before but seriously every wardrobe NEEDS one!
